A: The Diercon straw removes 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria, including E. coli, and 99.9% of waterborne protozoa, including Giardia & Cryptosporidium etc. Diercon straw also reduces turbidity with its high precision hollow membrane to less than 0.5 NTU. The activated carbon filter removes some chemicals (like chlorine) and some heavy metal ions residual pesticides and fertilizers, organic compound and so on

Q:How will I know when the Diercon straw has reached the end of its life?
A: The flow rate of your Diercon straw will decrease, and then stop pulling water through once it reaches the end of its life. You can increase the lifespan by cleaning the Diercon straw by flushing the filter with the dedicated back flush device after each use.

Q:Does the filter out salt water?
A: Diercon straw is designed to filter out the bacteria from the fresh water source and does not remove salt from salt water and should not be used with ocean water, sea water or brackish water.

Q：Can I use my Diercon straw to filter very turbid water?
A: Yes, you can, but it's not recommended unless you have to do this. Try use choose visual clean water and give minutes sediment or use the dedicated prefilter if the water is very turbid.

Q: Can I drink carbonated drinks and water with pigment through the filters?
A: Not Recommended, they will shorten the service life and will void your warranty.

Q: Can the Diercon straw be frozen ?
A: If your Diercon straw has been used, and is then exposed to freezing temperatures, water inside can freeze and crack the filter. You may not see these cracks, so we recommend never letting it freeze by draining the inside water from the straw once after being used. When camping at high elevations or freezing temperatures, be extra careful not to let it freeze.

Q:Is the Diercon Straw dishwasher and detergent safe?
A:No. The heat of the dishwasher could warp the casing and possibly damage the filter so does the detergent. To clean, simply rinse with water, and leave uncapped to dry.

Q: What is a prefilter and what is it used for ?
A: The pre-filter is a small device with a piece of cotton pad inside, when attached to the straw it can be regarded as the first stage filtration, the pre-filer can block the large sediments or dead leaves in the water, this will greatly improve the life span of the straw.

Q: What is a back wash device?
A: The back wash device is a syringe-like device which is used to clean the filter element in order to prolong the life span of the straw.
